Gone are the days of bulky router boxes and massive power drains. With its built-in Wi-Fi router and native DC power capabilities, setting up your Starlink Mini is incredibly straightforward.

Here is your step-by-step guide to getting online from anywhere.

Step 1: Unbox and Inspect Your Gear

The Starlink Mini is designed for backpack-friendly deployment. Inside the box, you'll find:

The Starlink Mini Dish: Weighing just 2.4 lbs (1.10 kg) and about the size of a laptop.
Integrated Kickstand: For quick deployment on picnic tables or the ground.
Power Cable: Ready to plug in and power up.

Step 2: Find a Clear View of the Sky

Satellite internet requires a direct line of sight to the satellites overhead. Look for an open area free of dense tree canopies, tall buildings, or canyon walls.

Pro Tip: Use the "Check for Obstructions" tool in the Starlink app before you finalize your placement to ensure you won't experience drops in your connection.

Step 3: Connect to Power

One of the top benefits for off-griders is the Mini's ultra-low power consumption, drawing only 25–40 Watts. You have a few options for powering your dish:

Portable Power Stations: You can plug it directly into an EcoFlow, Jackery, or Anker power station.
Direct 12V-48V DC Power: If your rig is wired for it, the Mini runs directly on DC power, eliminating the need for an inefficient AC inverter and saving your battery bank.

Step 4: Connect Your Devices

Because the Starlink Mini features an integrated Wi-Fi 5 router built right into the dish, there's no extra router box to clutter your counter space!

Download the official Starlink App on your smartphone.
Open your phone's Wi-Fi settings and look for the network named "STARLINK" or "STINKY".
Connect to the network (it won't have a password initially).
Open the Starlink app, which will prompt you to rename your network and set a secure password.

Step 5: Protect & Transport Your Gear

When it's time to pack up and hit the road, protecting your Starlink Mini from dust, drops, and shifting cargo is crucial. While the dish itself is built for the outdoors, we highly recommend investing in a rugged, waterproof hard case—such as a Pelican or Apache case—equipped with customizable pull-and-pluck foam. A dedicated hard case ensures your dish, kickstand, and power cables stay neatly organized and completely safe from the heavy vibrations of off-grid travel, guaranteeing your connection is ready to deploy the moment you reach your next campsite.

Step 6: Hardwire for Extra Stability (Optional)

If you prefer a hardwired connection for remote work, the Starlink Mini includes one latching RJ45 Ethernet LAN port under a weather-sealed flap. You can use this to plug directly into your laptop or connect a secondary mesh network system inside your RV.
